I was leading a job seeker workshop group the other day. Folks from all walks of life. We were talking about self confidence, making a good first impression, and how to best introduce ourselves when we meet people for the first time.
The task was to sit down with a piece of paper a craft a “30 second elevator speech.” Each person took their shot at it. One in particular silenced the room. Let’s call it a walk-off home run. It was Roger, an unemployed Carpenter. He said…
“I make beautiful chairs.”
The class sat stunned. Some put their pens down. One guy said. ”Wooden would’ve made it 5 damn words!” which made the group erupt in laughter.
Truly a defining moment in elevator speeches.
I have never heard one better!
